Julanne's Reflection
I was very interested to come to this class because I am looking for some new ideas and new ways to engage students. I think that I have a few new tools after listening to the information presented today. I am most interested in using blogs to engage the students. I teach reading at the middle school level, and my students are often disinterested in the material (and school in general!) that we have to use. Maybe if I incorporate a few of these ideas I can "reel them in"!

I use blogs as part of my reading program and it really helps with comprehension. Not every child will buy into it, but if you make it clear ahead of time how many times you expect them to blog, the quality of work you expect, the students do become hooked. You have more chance engaging the students in meaningful discussions with each other because developmentally middle school students enjoy the social connections, and they are already texting, etc.
ReplyDeleteHi Julanne,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the class is giving you some food for thought. Tomorrow we'll be spending some time helping you explore the tools and design some ideas.
